GE Series

1. Adjective and Adverbs

Adjective are words which explain the condition of the nouns. We can form adjectives from some nouns by adding suffix “y”.
Example : rain –-> rainy , cloud --> cloudly
Adverbs say something about the action described by a verb.
a) Most adverbs of manner have ‘ly’ at the end, for example:
slow --> slowly quick --> quickly loud -->loudly
sad --> sadly quiet --> quietly careful--> carefully
b) Notice whwre the “y” changes to “I”
easy –-> easily happy –-> happily lazy –-> lazily
crazy –-> crazily sleepy-->sleepily sloppy --> sloppily
c) Some adverb of manner are different
hard –-> hard fast --> fast

Make sure adverbs from the following adjectives.

2. Coordinative Conjunctions

Coordinative Conjunctions are used to combine : words, phrases, or
clauses that are grammatically equal into larger sentences. The words, phrases or clauses that a put together must be the same type, it means that :
• Nouns must be put together with other nouns
• Verbs must be put together with others verbs
• Adjectives must be put together with other adjectives
The most common correlative conjunctions are:
a) Not only…But also
Ex : He is a singer
He is an actor
-> He is not only a singer but also an actor (“not only…but also” is used to combin the same type of words; noun phrases)
b) Both…And
Ex : Agus bought a magazine
Anwar baought a magazine
-> Both Agus and Anwar bought magazines (“both…and” is used to combine the same type of words; nouns)
c) Either…Or
Ex : You may choose dancing
You may choose singing
-> You may choose either dancing or singing (“either…or” is used to combine the same type of words; nouns)
d) Neither…Nor
Ex : I haven’t seen Borobudur temple
I haven’t seen Prambanan temple
-> I haven’t seen neither Borobudu nor Prambanan temple (“neither …nor” is used to combine the same type of words = verbs)
e) Whether…Or
Ex : I don’t know either to study sculpture or to study woodcarving
(“whether…or” is used to combine the same type of words = verbs)

Join the following sentences using “not only…but also”, “both…and”, “either…or”, “neither…nor”, or “whether…or”.
1. The paintings are painted by a famous artist
The paintings are very valuable
2. Erwin Gutawa is a musi arranger
Purwacaraka is a music arranger
3. I cannot hear the performance from the back row
I cannot hear the performance from the front row

1. The paintings are not only painted by a famous artist but also very
valuable.
2. Both Erwin Gutawa and Purwacaraka are music arrangers.

9. Preferences divided into 3 types

The types are
1. Prefer :
a) Prefer (Noun) to (Noun)
Ex : Anis prefers chocolate to chicken noodle.
b) Prefer (Gerund) to (Gerund)
Ex : Anis prefers eating chocolate to buying chicken noodle.
c) Prefer (to Verb 1) than (Verb 1)
Ex : Anis refers to eat chocolate than buy them.
2. Would Rather :
Would Rather (Verb 1) than (Verb 1)
Ex : Anis would rather eat chocolate than buy them.
3. Like :
a) Like (Noun) better than (Noun)
Ex: Anis likes chocolate better than chicken noodle.
b) Like (Gerund) better than (Gerund)
Ex: Anis likes eating chocolate better than buying them.

Complete each sentence with a suitable preference !
1. Some of my friends … dancing together with me with dangdut song
better than singing pop song on a stage.
2. The monkeys … like climb the mango’s tree and eating mango better
than sleeping on the mango’s tree.
3. The old woman … help that child for cross the way to sit beside the
shop.

10. Can, Could, Be Able to

1) Can
We use ‘can’ to express ability and express permission. We can us ‘be able to’ instead of can, but can is more common.
Example :
• to express ability : She can speak five language
• to express permission : Can I boow your umbrella?

2) Could and was/were able to
a) We use ‘could’ to say that someone had the general ability to do something in the past.
Example : I could swim when I was 5 years old.
b) The ability to do something and did it in a partocular situation, we use was/were able to (‘could’ is not possible).
Example : Even though I’d hurt my leg, I was able to swim back to the boat. (Not: … I could not swim back…)
c) An expection with the verbs of perception, such as see, hear, smell, taste, feel, and som verbs of thinking such as understand, remember. We use could with these verbs when we actually did these things in particular situations.
Example : We caould see a man in the garden.
d) We use could not for both general ability and particular situations.
Example : My grandmother couldn’t speak English
e) Could have…
We use could have + V3 to say the ability or the opportunity to something in the past but didn’t do it.
Example : You could have helped me. Why didn’t you?

Use can, could, be able to or could have + V3 !
1) The exam was very difficult, but we … finish it.
2) I … eaten one bowl of meatball when I was child.
3) Nina … play basketball.

My Point of View Series

1. Multimedia Department

Previously, I enter into the Vocational High School with a purpose to ready at work world. With opinion at globalization era like this, multimedia of vital importance. So, I’m sure that multimedia direction very support my plan to ready enter into work world with difficult competitor like in this time. With enter at multimedia direction, I expect education provision that support. with enter at multimedia direction, i expect education provision that support. after this half semester, i have study internal issue. i often late study matter caused by i don't have software and facilities (like camera) to support. the matter most interesting at multimedia direction is I get something new, usually friends from the others direction never know. for example technology science development which very fast and i think that is matter very impressive for me. before now i am don't know well about the matter like that, I more understand and can follow it when i began to study it at multimedia direction. after graduate from multimedia direction, i want direct jump down at technology work world and apply it well of course. give benefit to aftermath my erudition about the matter.


2. Internet


Internet is an important tools for me in development technology. And I must be follow too. A time which I use for internet is not limited and I didn’t restrict, suitable with necessity. A way of everyone to use internet is different. depending from everyone. How and what a purpose to use that internet. if use internet for good matters sure the portions not measurable and even best over do that's better. the one who consider to use internet overs do bad their possibility thinks that done by user also bad. i very disagree of this thing. we as good student of course know particular that must and is not done. when i heard prohibition to use facebook, also startled. In fact, not all user done is wrong. i swop, shared science there. There was our place to unbottles idea together when my distance with other is far for example. i am very glad use internet. whatevers sciences that want we get was there. then what's the wrong? solution for this matter is, how does to cultivate our mind to think clear. use facilities well, harmless another person, and will think long a certain. i want, at school has fulfilled facilities well as a standart of a school. if school doesn't can, sure from formerly not be official into international standart. autodidact space too. facebook doesn’t activate. why? isn't it's true that return again to internet used that can good and bad? depending from everyone…as a student who have a good purpose is lossy.


3. English


The key of success are many and relative. English can be called as a key of success when we are very need it. english very necessary for studied like the other sciences too. english is world language that can bring us in the world of education, work world, also in government. the difficultest when learn english is practise it. everyday that speak indonesia, seldom the one who want to invited to practise to sharpen english-speaking ability. that habit retards me. the funest, about the writing, the words arrangement customs and manners whom i enough can to do it. the student who afraid of english lesson probably because they will consider that lesson is difficult and unaccustomed. and they felt indigent to study. my effort to repairs english ability is practise. even i have plan if tomorow later continue lecture, i shall take english literature direction because i like english so much since childhood and be my favorite subject.
